How to use this time card calculator

  1. Enter your start and end time for each day in the two-week pay period. Leave days off blank.

Why overtime is counted week by week

Under the US Fair Labor Standards Act, overtime is based on each workweek on its own, not the whole pay period. If you work 45 hours in week 1 and 35 hours in week 2, you are owed 5 hours of overtime for week 1, even though the two-week total is exactly 80 hours. This calculator works out overtime separately for each week, the way payroll should.

Frequently asked questions

What is a time card calculator?

It adds up the hours you worked over a pay period from your daily start and end times, subtracts unpaid breaks, and works out overtime and pay.

Is overtime calculated per week or per pay period?

Per workweek. Under US federal law, overtime is owed for hours over 40 in a single workweek. Two weeks cannot be averaged together, so this calculator checks each week separately.

How many hours is a full-time two-week pay period?

A typical full-time two-week pay period is 80 hours: 40 hours a week for two weeks.

Is my time card saved?

Yes, in your own browser on this device only. Nothing is sent to ClockMath.
